New Flyer receives order for up to 500 hybrid and battery electric buses for DC area

USA – New Flyer of America Inc, a subsidiary of NFI based in Crookston, Minnesota, has received a contract for up to 500 hybrid and battery electric buses from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

The contract stipulates a firm order for 75 ‘Xcelsior’ hybrid electric buses (40 feet in length) and 25 ‘Xcelsior Charge NG’ battery electric buses (35 feet in length). Washington Metro may exercise contract options for an additional four hundred vehicles to serve the DC area as well as the surrounding parts of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.
