Ashok Leyland adopts fully automatic transmissions from Allison for latest low entry city bus

Ashok Leyland links with Allison Transmission to introduce fully automatic low entry city buses in Tamil Nadu.

India / USA - Ashok Leyland Ltd of Chennai has introduced new low-floor diesel city buses equipped with fully automatic transmissions from Allison Transmission India Pvt Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of Allison Transmission Holdings Inc of Indianapolis, Indiana, USA) for operation in the State of in Tamil Nadu, southern India.

The new 12 metre buses featuring two door, stepless low-entry designs are equipped with Ashok Leyland's H-series six-cylinder, four-valve 246hp (184 kW) diesel engine, and  matched with the Allison T280 transmission from its Torqmatic® Series* of transmissions. These buses are to replace older manual transmission models and are to operate on routes in major Tamil Nadu cities like Chennai, Madurai, and Coimbatore.
