Berger launches new 4.7-tonne curtainsider

Austria – Berger Fahrzeugtechnik GesmbH of Radfeld, Tyrol has launched a new curtain-sided semi-trailer with an unladen weight of 4.7 tonnes, making it the lightest trailer of its kind on the market, according to the manufacturer.
The ‘ecoChamp LTO’ is the latest offering from the lightweight trailer specialist. Compared to the previous ecoChamp model, which has a payload of 27.6 tonnes (4.3-tonne tare weight), the new ecoChamp boasts a payload of 34.2 tonnes. It also has a short wheelbase of 6,390mm. Berger achieved the low weight and high payload with steel I-beams featuring a “Reuleaux triangle” design, which the company says allowed it to shed material without compromising on strength and stability.
