SpainMasats SA, a subsidiary of Irizar based in Barcelona, Spain, has launched a new bus ramp which combines electric and manual operations, ensuring “uninterrupted access” to the vehicle for disabled passengers.

The ‘RD1’ is an upgrade on Masats’ previous ramp designs which combines an electric ramp with a manual ramp, meaning that the latter can be employed in the case of a power failure. Moreover, the RD1 can function with Masats’ passenger information system (“PIS-L”), which uses red and green lighting to inform passengers when it is safe to board. The lights will turn green only once the ramp is ready to use.
