Hyundai delivers first electric buses to Japan

Hyundai hands over Elec City Town buses to Japan’s Iwasaki Group

Japan / South Korea - Hyundai Motor Company, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea in April made its first-ever delivery of five zero-emission buses to a customer in Japan. The battery-powered Elec City Town medium-sized buses were handed over to Tanegashima Yakushima Kotsu, a regional transportation and tourism service provider operated by the Iwasaki Group in Kagoshima Prefecture, during a ceremony attended by Hyundai Motor Group’s vice chairman Jaehoon Chang and Iwasaki Group’s CEO, Yoshitaro Iwasaki.

Hyundai said the delivery marks a significant step for Yakushima Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in its transition to zero-emission public transportation. The two companies signed the initial sales agreement back in July 2024.
