Indian rigid truck market slips 4.4% in FY2024/25

India - Domestic sales of medium and heavy rigid trucks (7.5t gvw and above) experienced a degrowth of 4.4% to 239,847 units in FY 2024/25 from 250,969 units in the financial year 2023/24. Export sales of medium and heavy rigid trucks increased by 45.5% to 11,521 units in the fiscal year 2024-25 from 7,918 units in the previous fiscal year. Production of medium and heavy rigid trucks production increased from 267,280 units in 2023/24 to 255,763 units in 2024/25, down by 4.3%.

Sales of medium-duty rigid trucks (7.5t to 12 tons) increased by 6.6% over the last fiscal year registering 40,160 units, up from 37,667 units in FY 2023/24. Export sales experienced growth of 27.4% in FY 2024/25 to register 4,546 units, up from 3,568 units in FY 2023/24. Tata Motors and Eicher dominate this segment, although Ashok Leyland registered the only growth of significance in the domestic market of 32.6% with 7,482 units in FY 2024/25 compared with 5,642.
