CaetanoBus launches next-gen buses at UITP

Next-gen CaetanoBus range

Germany / Portugal – At the UITP Global Public Transport Summit in Hamburg (June 15 – 18), bus and coach manufacturer, CaetanoBus SA of Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, unveiled next generation of zero‑emission buses, which included an 8.5, 12 and 18 metre articulated bus, including a bus‑rapid‑transit (BRT) version. These buses will be offered in both battery‑electric (e.City Gold) and hydrogen fuel‑cell (H2.City Gold) variants. Series production is expected in 2026 at its Vila Nova de Gaia plant in Portugal.

We met with Francisco Magalhaes, international sales manager at CaetanoBus, who told us that all the models are built on a unified modular platform that utilises components and powertrain technology from China’s CRRC. CRRC supplies a highly integrated “6‑in‑1 inverter and drivetrain system, combining motor, generator, auxiliary systems, power conversion and high‑voltage distribution into a single compact unit.” This innovation delivers up to 70% weight savings and enhanced efficiency, according to Magalhaes.
