France – The future of hydrogen fuel cell production firm Symbio of Fontaine, France has been left in doubt after major customer and shareholder Stellantis announced the immediate termination of fuel cell development, including its planned range of hydrogen-fuelled vans.

On 16 July, the automotive corporation announced its decision to discontinue its fuel cell development programme, citing the limited availability of hydrogen fuel, high capital requirements, and “the need for stronger consumer purchasing incentives”. This means that its planned production of fuel cell electric vans – mid-size vans in Hordain, France and large-size vans in Gliwice, Poland – has been cancelled.
