Tractor demand in India falls 8.6% in firster quarter of FY2025/26

India - India’s tractor market declined 8.6% in the first quarter (April to June) of fiscal year 2025/26 (Q1 FY2025-26), registering 14,217 units compared with 15,552 units in Q1 FY2024-25. Tractor production rose by 5.1% overall from 15,532 units to 16,318 units; export sales rose sharply by 405.8% to 263 units from 52 units a year earlier.

The light-weight tractor segment (31t < GVW ≤ 40t) reported sales growth of 6.5%, reaching 1,601 units in Q1 FY2025-26 compared with 1,503 units in the same quarter of FY2024-25. Production surged significantly by 289.4%, while exports also jumped 260% to 18 units from 5 units. The Tata Motors figures are questionable as output in Q1 of last year was stated as zero, yet 923 units were registered. It may be that heavier gvw tractors are sold in this category.
