UK – Electra Commercial Vehicles Ltd (Electra), the Blackburn-based specialist in zero-emission commercial vehicles, has partnered with highways innovator WJ Group to launch the world’s first fully electric thermoplastic road-marking vehicle, according to the company. The project replaces traditional diesel propulsion and gas-powered burners with a battery-driven system capable of both powering the truck and heating thermoplastic materials, creating a truly zero-emission solution for road marking operations.

WJ Group is a UK road-marking and highway safety services provider, and has worked closely with Electra to meet the challenge of electrifying an application with unusually high thermal and energy requirements. Electra’s engineering team developed a battery system that integrates into a compact chassis without sacrificing performance or operational uptime, proving that electric technology can be applied beyond standard haulage or distribution uses.
