Hyundai steps up transition to eco-friendly CVs

Hyundai Motor’s Jeonju commercial vehicle plant in South Korea

South Korea - Hyundai Motor Company, headquartered in Seoul, is accelerating its transition to an eco-friendly commercial vehicle manufacturer by stepping up the introduction of new production lines for hydrogen and battery-powered vehicles. The plant, which makes trucks and buses, currently has an operating rate of around 40%, but this is expected to increase significantly with the introduction of eco-friendly vehicles.

Hyundai says it plans to halt operations at individual production lines at different times, as part of a staged plant conversion strategy, to allow it to introduce new production equipment. The main Jeonju Truck Plant 1 production line, which produces medium and heavy-duty internal combustion engine (ICE) trucks, will be halted during the fourth quarter of 2025, to allow new equipment to be installed for the production of eco-friendly vehicles. Production of ICE vehicles will be shifted to the Jeonju Truck Plants 2 and 3.
