BYD installing its Blade battery technology into electric buses in Brazil.
Brazil / China - BYD do Brasil Ltda of Campinas, São Paulo (SP) has announced it is introducing to its electric bus production line in Campinas its most advanced battery, the Blade; the same technology found in its passenger vehicles.
Developed by BYD, the Blade battery was launched worldwide in 2020, the company claims it has since distinguished itself by redefining industry safety standards as well as durability, and energy efficiency. “With its elongated shape and internal structure that uses horizontally arranged LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) cells, the Blade optimizes space utilization, reinforces the vehicle's structural rigidity, and offers superior thermal performance,” BYD goes onto say. It adds: “In rigorous tests conducted by BYD, including nail punctures, heating to 300°C, and crushing, the battery demonstrated exceptional thermal stability, with no risk of fire or explosion, even under extreme conditions. These results exceed the standards required by the global automotive industry, ensuring protection in the event of a collision or puncture. Another highlight is its long service life. The Blade battery boasts high efficiency that is maintained over time, ensuring greater durability and significantly reducing maintenance. In the new electric buses, the batteries range from 425 kWh to 499 kWh in the BC12 model, and between 542 kWh and 642 kWh in the BC22 model, allowing full recharges in between one and a half and two hours using fast-charging technology.
