Overview of Business Activities

At BAE Systems, our dedication shows in everything we do. We’re pioneering inventions to provide our customers world-class capabilities, defend our national security, protect our men and women in uniform, and sustain the prosperity of our communities and our planet. We employ a skilled workforce of over 100,000 in around 40 countries. Working with customers and local partners, we develop, engineer, manufacture, and support products and systems to deliver superior technology and capabilities across a broad range of commercial and defence sectors.

Our Power & Propulsion Solutions business provides customizable, modular, and adaptable, low and zero emission drivetrain technology to medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicle original equipment manufacturers. Our solutions include battery electric, fuel cell electric, electric hybrid, electric axle, and electric power take off. We also provide sub-system components for customers integrating their own solutions, as well as the design and development of bespoke power electronics products. We differentiate ourselves through our superior component engineering, systems design approach, integration support to our customers when needed, and outstanding aftermarket support to fleets.

Mission / Vision Statement

We innovate for those who move the world™.

Through our innovative approach to the design of our power electronics, we make the electrification of commercial vehicles quicker and cheaper for our customers.

BAE Systems makes electrification simplified™.

Strategy

We provide, by design, modular electric drivetrain solutions. Our family of products are designed to meet the needs of numerous medium and heavy-duty platforms. Our simple solutions reduce costs when electrifying a range of vehicle types. Significant commonality can be achieved across both low and zero emission propulsion solutions. Central to this simplification, is our family of power electronics which provide multi-functionality in fewer components and control boxes than our competitors, freeing up space for more vehicle features. They enable superior efficiency and packaging with silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) technology.

We can also provide customers with the benefit of our 25+ years of experience of integrating electric platforms.

Sustainability Goals

Our approach to sustainability includes both the assessment of physical and strategic impacts on our own sites and operations, and the development of a wider decarbonisation strategy that encompasses the transition plan and sector net zero roadmaps. Our ambition is to be carbon neutral across our operations by 2030. Find out more.
