USA – The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded five companies a total of USD127m over five years to develop zero-emission technologies for medium- to heavy-duty trucks. The award amount will be matched by each company.

The money was awarded as part of ‘SuperTruck 3’, the third iteration of a programme aiming to improve the efficiency of regional haulage. It was first launched in 2009 by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE). For SuperTruck 3, the Vehicle Technologies Office and the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office partnered to offer over USD100m in funding over five years to applicants who present promising and innovative concepts that will achieve greater efficiency and lower emissions in medium- and heavy-duty trucks.1
