South Korean LCV sales fall sharply in Q4 – but sales of Hyundai’s electric Porter truck up 75%

South Korea - Sales of domestic light commercial vehicles between 2-5 tons gvw dropped by 15% to 41,415 units in the fourth quarter of 2021 from 48,711 units a year earlier, with deliveries affected by supply-chain shortages. Full-year sales were down by 3.7% at 187,487 units from 194,791 units in 2020. 

Hyundai reported an 11% fall in conventional Porter light truck sales to 76,413 units last year, but this was largely offset by a 75% jump in sales of battery-powered versions of the same model to 15,805 units. Sales of its Starex/Staria minibus/van fell by almost 8% to 33,432 units, while Kia reported a 2.5% drop in combined sales of its Bongo light truck and special-purpose vehicles to 61,837 units.
