Iveco and Plus ready to trial autonomous trucks on European public roads

Iveco S-Way Truck powered by Plus autonomy driving

Italy / USA – Iveco Group NV, a commercial vehicle manufacturer based in Turin, has partnered with Plus of Cupertino, California, to pilot test a heavy-duty truck (Iveco S-Way) installed with Plus’s autonomous driving technology (‘PlusDrive’).

An announcement in September 2022, revealed the successful completion of the initial pilot phase which focused on deep engineering integration and closed course testing. The next phase begins with trials of semi-autonomous trucks on European public roads in a wide variety of environments and driving conditions. The trials will comply with Level 4 autonomy guidelines (i.e., the vehicle will have almost complete autonomy while with a driver present to intervene if there is a problem). The two companies plan to gather test data for improving and validating an autonomous product variant in the S-WAY range.
