Vicinity Motor begins deliveries of Class 3 electric truck

Canada Vicinity Motor Corp of Aldergrove, British Columbia has announced that it has begun deliveries of the first ‘VMC 1200’ electric cab-chassis to roll off the production line in Canada. Sales for the Class 3 truck began in July 2021. 

The VMC 1200, with a gross vehicle weight rating of 12,000 lbs (over 5 tonnes), is fitted with a 120-kW motor and lithium-ion batteries providing up to 150 kWh of energy and a range of up to 180 miles. Its maximum payload is approximately 5,500 lbs (2,495 kg). Vicinity Motor states that the EV drive system is a proprietary technology, though it has received support from German drivetrain supplier hofer powertrain with integrating electric drive components in the past. The manufacturer has supply agreements with two companies for batteries: Electrovaya and Proterra
