USA / GermanyNikola Corporation, a zero-emission truck manufacturer based in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, announced in December that reached a definitive agreement with electric utility company E.ON SE of Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany to set up a joint venture for the supply of hydrogen vehicles and associated infrastructure to customers in Europe.

Nikola announced a tentative agreement back in September to provide operators with Nikola ‘Tre FCEV’ trucks alongside services and green hydrogen infrastructure as part of a single package. The two firms have since confirmed that they plan to establish the joint venture early this year, with the aim of provisioning customers with vehicles and fuel from 2027. By then, Nikola and E.ON hope to supply enough hydrogen to power up to 5,000 fuel-cell electric trucks. They claim that this would replace over 200 million litres of diesel and save up to 560,000 metric-tons of CO2 per year.
