Spain – In March this year, the Irizar Group of Ormaiztegi, Spain opened a new 2,200 m2 production plant for its electric ie truck in Lazkao, Spain. With an initial annual capacity of 60 vehicles per year, the new site dedicated to the production of this specific electric truck has aided in the development of the latest ie truck platform. When compared to previous generations, the latest ie truck is 20% lighter in GVW, has improved batteries and a more powerful powertrain that allows for a greater range. Announced in 2021 and with deliveries expected at the end of this year, the ie truck will be presented at the upcoming Solutrans event in Lyon from November 21 to 25, 2023.

The truck will be offered in 4x2 or 6x2 wheel variants, with the latter having a rear steering axle for increased manoeuvrability. Both configurations will share the same powertrain  with both utilising synchronous electric motors with permanent magnets. In terms of safety, cameras on the vehicle and front radar sensors can detect lane changes (LDWS) as well as emergency assisted braking (AEBS) in case the truck gets too close to the vehicle directly in front of it.
