Prototype fuel cell electric truck by Quantron

USAQuantron US Inc, the subsidiary of German retrofit firm Quantron AG based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, presented a prototype Class 8 fuel cell electric truck and announced a hydrogen partnership at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Anaheim, California, held between 1-4 May 2023.

The truck in question is based on the ‘Freightliner Cascadia’ range produced by Daimler Truck North America. The truck on show had an 80-kg hydrogen storage capacity, but with 100 kg Quantron claims the vehicle range could reach between 750 and 850 miles. Quantron has not provided any detailed vehicle specifications, but the Cascadia fuel cell electric truck is likely to have many of the same parts as the ‘QHM FCEV’ for the European market. The hydrogen storage system was supplied by Quantum Fuel Systems
