Mercedes-Benz tests zero-emission trucks in the Alps

Mercedes-Benz Demo Trucks

Austria / Germany – Daimler Truck AG of Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Baden-Württemberg has announced the successful completion of a week-long demo tour of both its battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 300 Tractor and its HFC Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck at Tyrol, in the Alps in Austria, at an altitude of 1,560 metres. This demonstrated the company’s dual-truck strategy (hydrogen and battery-electric) in its quest for zero-emission transportation.

The eActros 300 has already been tested over a distance of 3,000km from the Arctic Circle to Stuttgart to validate its endurance under a raft of various climactic conditions to drive up interest before the vehicle goes into series production in September 2023. The three battery packages, each with 112 kWh of installed battery capacity enable a range of up to 220 kilometres without opportunity charging. According to Mercedes-Benz, the truck has been designed to travel 1.2 million kilometres over ten years.
