The Iveco and Plus automated truck hits German public roads

PlusDrive-enabled Iveco automated truck

Germany / Italy / USA / France / Switzerland – As previously reported by T&BB, testing of the Iveco SpA / Plus Inc heavy-duty truck (Iveco S-Way) installed with Plus’s level 4 autonomous driving technology (‘PlusDrive’), has reached another milestone, with testing taking place on German public roads. This follows extensive closed course testing and validation. Data from real-world operations will now be gathered during this phase of the project, which is due to be extended onto roads of several other  European countries, namely  Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland over the next several months.

The trials are to comply with Level 4 autonomy guidelines (i.e., the vehicle will have almost complete autonomy, however, a driver is always still present to intervene if there is a problem). The two companies plan to gather test data for improving and validating an autonomous product variant in the S-WAY range.
