France / Japan – In April, the assets of autonomous vehicle firm Navya SA of Villeurbanne, France were acquired by Gaussin SA of Héricourt in Haute-Saône and Macnica Inc, a semiconductor and electronics manufacturer based in Yokohama, Japan. Now a joint venture called ‘Gaussin Macnica Mobility’ (GMM), Navya has received its first customer order since the liquidation of its assets.

In January, Navya opened receivership proceedings after it declared it could no longer meet its financial liabilities. The Lyon Commercial Court accepted the company’s request and set a deadline for the submission of takeover bids to the receiver. This had to be extended until, in April, Gaussin agreed to purchase some of the company’s assets for EUR1.4m. Finally, on 24 April, Gaussin agreed with Macnica to launch a shared takeover of the company. The new joint venture, GMM, is 51% owned by Gaussin and 49% by Macnica. It is based in Navya’s former headquarters.
