A startup cannot live on ideas alone, no matter how good; it must be able to turn them into a viable business case if it is to remove its dependency on investor funds. That was the message of Jean-Claude Bailly, who took over the ailing French tech company Navya SA when it was saved from insolvency earlier this year by Gaussin and Macnica,1 during an interview with Truck & Bus Builder.

The company has started deliveries of its ATM 28T Full Elec electric yard tractors to Amazon in the United States, an order comprising 329 vehicles. The vehicles are produced at Gaussin’s manufacturing facility in Saint-Vallier, France.

The recent expansion involved deploying a third 2X8 assembly line to increase production rates, meaning that the annual total capacity of the facility now hits 2,400 vehicles per year.

Now a joint venture called ‘Gaussin Macnica Mobility’ (GMM), Navya has received its first customer order since the liquidation of its assets.

The companies are looking to supply Gaussin’s hydrogen vehicles with renewable hydrogen produced by Lhyfe, as well as identifying potential customers for hydrogen in France.

Gaussin UK will be based in Wickford, Essex, targeting the UK logistics, retail and transport markets, as well as license sales to local partners.

The agreement proposes that Symbio integrate its fuel cell stacks with Gaussin's ATM range of terminal tractors.
