Alternative drive bus and coach registrations increase by 34%

Europe – Registrations of city buses and passenger transport in other segments (intercity and coach) with alternative drivelines (to diesel powered buses and coaches) in Europe* (*Countries uEU27+UK+ICE+NO+CH) in the first half of 2023 totalled 5,980 unit, an increase of 34% on the 4,452 registrations in the first half of 2022, according to figures collated and produced by Wim Chatrou of Chatrou CME Solutions (CME) of The Netherlands.

According to CME, 73.5% of all new city buses (excludes intercity buses, coaches and trolleybuses) registered in Europe in the first half of 2023 had an alternative driveline, .i.e., 4,978 out of 6,773 total city bus registrations. This compares with 64.5% in the first half of 2022 (3,884 units out of 6,019) and 63.1% in the first half of 2021 – see Slide 4 below. However, couple the suburban ; an increase of nine ten percentage points or 14% more than in the first half of 2022 and some 16.5% more than in the same period of 2021.
