Last round of German government subsidies for electric commercial vehicles
By Luke Willetts - 18th March 2024
Germany – The Federal Cabinet of Germany has allocated EUR 53.4 million to 11 operators and two districts to procure electric buses, as part of the EUR 13.8 billion E-Mobility funding package announced last year. This is part of a wider “Special Assets Climate and Transformation Fund” (KTF) of EUR 212 billion to fund various projects that help decarbonise the country, allowing the nation to reduce its emissions and reach its climate pledges.
Whilst this funding will target the advancement of electromobility, the German Ministry of Transport confirmed to local media, that this would be the last time the federal government funds or subsidises e-buses or e-trucks. Funds allocated for projects up until 2027 will remain. A combination of high inflation, energy instability (gas supply from Russia) and a downturn in productivity has resulted in the German government revising its 2024 economic forecast down from 1.3% to just 0.2%.
