Daimler and Linde unveil new liquefied hydrogen refuelling technology in Germany

The first public sLH2 pilot station in Wörth am Rhein

Germany – As a part of its effort to decarbonise the transport industry, the collaboration between Daimler Truck AG of Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Baden-Württemberg and Linde plc (Linde Engineering) of Munich has reached a significant milestone in their partnership on co-developing liquid hydrogen refuelling technology. The jointly developed sLH2* process of handling subcooled liquid hydrogen allows for a higher storage density, a greater range, more energy efficiency and faster refuelling times, superior on all metrics**.

The first public sLH2 pilot station has been opened in Wörth am Rhein, Germany, and is provided with liquid hydrogen by Linde. This facility is currently being used in Daimler Truck customer trials of the Mercedes-Benz GenH2 trucks. According to these trials, refuelling times for a 40-tonne heavy-duty truck with an 80kg hydrogen tank take between 10-15 minutes, providing a range of over 1,000 kms (621 miles). Drivers have equated the sLH2 process with the convenience of current diesel refuelling technology.
