ACT Expo 2024: Bendix displays Global Scalable Brake Control
By Luke Willetts - 9th August 2024
USA – At the latest Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo, held between 20-23 May at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Avon, Ohio-based Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC (a subsidiary of Knorr-Bremse AG, based in Munich) displayed its Global Scalable Brake Control (GSBC) with single, dual and per-wheel-end electric and hybrid powertrains. GSBC is Bendix’s electronic braking system technology for medium- to heavy-duty trucks and school buses. This makes it easier for drivers, meaning they won't have to change their brake pedal pressure under various road conditions. Rather, they will experience more consistent braking. During the design, the GSBC technology uses as few components as possible, making it easier for technicians to diagnose and address problems. Furthermore, the GSBC prioritises regenerative braking, which can help extend EV driving range by replenishing the batteries as the vehicle is in use
TJ Thomas, director of marketing and customer solutions, Controls Group, at Bendix said:
Around the globe, EBS is an established and road-tested technology that’s been serving commercial vehicles and drivers for more than two decades. With increased adoption of electric vehicles and the widespread use of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) like collision mitigation, we see tech like Global Scalable Brake Control becoming widely used in many applications. Utilising cleaner commercial vehicles doesn’t mean sacrificing safety. The same leading-edge safety systems Bendix has developed for traditionally powered trucks and buses are just as important and effective when they’re equipped on the electric, hybrid, and alternative fuel vehicles fleets are turning to in an effort to improve the environmental future of our planet.
