USA – Supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, the State of California has announced a USD 12.6 billion hydrogen hub project, the first of seven in the U.S. This will create a network of green hydrogen production facilities for various purposes (international shipping, trucking etc). This aligns with California’s plans to cut CO2 emissions by two million tonnes annually and reach carbon neutrality by 2045. California will also roll out H2 infrastructure, including 60 hydrogen refuelling stations. The private sector is aiding this. In May Air Products and Chemicals*, Inc announced plans to build a hydrogen refuelling network across California able to service the heavy-duty vehicle market such as commercial and municipal trucks as well as hydrogen-powered coaches. According to the State, this will help service the 5000 hydrogen HGVs and 1000 hydrogen-based buses that will be rolled out over the next five years.
