Utility offers lightweight brake drum and liftgate battery chargers as new trailer options

Utility Trailer-Cargobull liftgate battery charging system

USAUtility Trailer Manufacturing Company LLC of City of Industry, California announced in September that it is adding two new third-party options to its semi-trailers: a lightweight brake drum from Accuride; and a liftgate battery charger from Schmitz Cargobull’s North American joint venture with Utility.

Utility announced that ‘Trident’, a composite steel shell brake drum, can now be incorporated in any Utility semi-trailer’s braking system as an option. Trident reduces the weight of each wheel by 24 pounds, meaning a 96-lb total weight reduction in a two-axle configuration compared to a standard cast iron drum. First introduced in its flatbed trailers in 2020, the Accuride Trident is now being offered with Utility’s reefer and dry van trailers as well. For model year 2026, all Utility trailers will come with the lightweight brake drums as a base specification.
