Daimler set to launch new intercity electric bus in 2026
By Luke Willetts - 9th January 2025
Germany – At the 2025 Busworld Europe event in Brussels (September 4-9), Daimler Buses GmbH (owned by Daimler Truck AG of Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Germany), will unveil its first intercity electric bus (Mercedes-Benz eIntouro). The near-series production prototype was presented at eMobility Days in Berlin earlier this month. The orderbook is now open with series production set for 2026.
Available in 12.18 and 13.09 metre variants, seating options range from 50 to 63. There will be a one or two battery pack (207 kWh each) configuration, the latter providing a maximum range of 500 kms on a single charge, with the two batteries able to be fully charged within 90 minutes. The LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries, supplied by CATL, will be the same as those found in the eActros 600, part of Daimler’s “shared parts” strategy heading into 2025. The central drive is supplied by ZF (CeTrax 2 dual), which offers 320 kW of continuous power which is then supplied to the Mercedes-Benz RO 440 drive axle via a fully automatic three-speed transmission integrated into the drive unit.
