USA – In January 2025 New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced a new round of USD 100 million in State funding for the purchase of new zero-emission buses as well as the necessary charging equipment/refuelling technology. Through the Zero-Emission Transit Transition Program (ZETT), funding is available to non-MTA (The Metropolitan Transportation Authority) transit providers to support the acquisition of zero-emission buses. Eligible transit systems include the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA), Central New York Regional Transportation Authority (CNYRTA/Centro), Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA), and Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RGRTA/RTS). These companies may apply for up to USD 17.5 million each. Applications are now open and will close on April 4, 2025. This forms part of the State’s climate change goals in decarbonising public transport.

Last year, New York Mayor Eric Adams, announced USD 77 million in federal funding for the New York School Bus Incentive Program (NYSBIP), which provides subsidies to help NY school districts fund the acquisition of 180 new electric school buses. The State of NY has pledged to phase out diesel school buses entirely by 2035.
