New York state announces electric school bus funding

USA – Last month New York Mayor Eric Adams, announced USD 77 million in federal funding for the New York School Bus Incentive Program (NYSBIP), which provides subsidies to help NY school districts fund the acquisition of 180 new electric school buses, as the State aims to decarbonise its transportation sector. USD 61.1 million comes from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean School Bus Grant Programme. Part of the money will be used to procure and install the necessary EV charging equipment as the State of NY has pledged to phase out diesel school buses entirely by 2035. This is welcome news for North American electric school bus manufacturers Blue Bird Corp, Thomas Built Buses Inc, Collins Bus Corporation, Lion Electric Co, Navistar International Corporation, GreenPower Motor Company Inc and Phoenix Motor Inc.
