Symbio receives IATF 16949 for fuel cell gigafactory

'SymphonHy' gigafactory in Saint-Fons, France

FranceSymbio – a joint venture between Forvia, Michelin, and Stellantis based in Fontaine, Isère, France – has announced that, in December 2024, it became the first European manufacturer of fuel cells to receive IATF 16949 certification for its gigafactory in Saint-Fons.

The company said it obtained a letter of conformity to IATF 16949 on the design and manufacturing perimeters for its ‘SymphonHy’ site from testing and certification firm Bureau Veritas last December, exactly a year after the gigafactory’s inauguration. Production ramp-up has already begun at Saint-Fons, with a planned expansion to bring production capacity up to 50,000 units in 2026.
