Japan - The Japanese market for commercial vehicles over 2 tons gvw rebounded by 12% to 92,278 units in the first quarter of 2025 from weak year-earlier levels, when deliveries were affected by some lengthy production stoppages, based on data released by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).

The Japanese economy shrank by 0.7% year-on-year in the first quarter, according to preliminary government data, following an upwardly revised 2.4% rise in the fourth quarter of 2024. The GDP decline, the first in a year, was much deeper than the widely expected 0.2% decline, reflecting falling exports and sluggish domestic economic activity.
