Finland – As part of the EU funded Horizon Europe project, the EU is ramping up support for zero-emission freight with the launch of MACBETH (Multipoint Megawatt Charging for Battery Electric Truck Hubs), a project focused on deploying megawatt-scale charging hubs for battery-electric trucks (one in the Nordics and one in the Benelux region). The EUR 10.2 million project kicked off in February 2025 and runs through until 2029. Coordinated by Finland’s VTT Technical Research Centre, MACBETH brings together 19 partners* across Europe, including charging tech firms, logistics operators, and research institutes. Kempower, which recently launched a megawatt charger, will be providing the chargers for the project.

The project aims to demonstrate multi-vehicle, ultra-fast charging at two large-scale pilot sites, capable of delivering megawatt-level power, significantly reducing charging times for heavy-duty trucks and supporting 24/7 fleet operations. The goal is to achieve a high level of technical readiness, enabling rapid commercial rollout across key European corridors. The project aligns with the EU’s goal of a 90% reduction in transport emissions by 2040, encapsulated in the Green New Deal legislation.
