The European e-bus market gathered in Bonn, Germany to test drive several OEM’s new electric bus (some articulated) offerings. T&BB was in attendance as we gathered at the Stadtwerke Bonn bus depot to begin comparison testing.

The company is showcasing three new CO2 heat pump modules all aimed at improving overall efficiency as well as new products engineered for double-decker electric buses.

The company claims this technology has been adopted by some 60% of German electric buses as it improves both efficiency and range, as the refrigerant charge level is controlled precisely, ensuring that the optimal quantity of refrigerant is always used.

Konvekta is a pioneer in using CO2 as a refrigerant in climate control HVAC systems. More than 2,000 buses have been fitted with its CO2 heat pump HVAC system and these are now in successful operation throughout Europe.

Konvekta's roof-mounted CO2 heat pump has been adapted for electric buses and can operate in ambient conditions from -20°C to +45°C without requiring an additional separate electric heating system.

Konvekta’s HEAT2GO latent heat storage system that first went on public display at Busworld Brussels last October is now undergoing trials in Germany.

Claiming it to be the first application globally, Konvekta AG has revealed that since the start of this year, the first electric articulated bus, equipped with a Konvekta CO2 heat pump thermal management system, has been operated by the public transport company, VAG.
