Daimler Truck upgrades Mercedes OC 500 bus chassis with ADAS

The upgraded Mercedes-Benz OC 500 chassis

Germany – Stuttgart-based Daimler Truck AG has upgraded its Mercedes-Benz OC 500 bus chassis for Euro VI engines with new models for both the RF (raised floor) and LE (low entry) models. The new variant features ADAS systems such as sideguard and brake assist to improve safety.

Mercedes-Benz is now including the fifth generation of its Active Brake Assist system which utilises a combination of cameras and radar. The system can initiate maximum braking power automatically if a pedestrian is detected in front of the vehicle. Active Brake Assist also supports the option of radar-based adaptive cruise control. The chassis’ Sideguard Assist system features two radars on the passenger side of the vehicle, lighting up a yellow LED if a pedestrian or cyclist is detected. If the system detects a risk of collision, the light will flash red, and the driver’s seat will vibrate.
