GermanyTraton SE, a parent company of various commercial vehicle brands based in Munich, Bavaria, outlined its two-year strategic plan for business growth, targeting a 9% return on sales for the entire group in 2024.

Dubbed ‘Way Forward’, the group’s strategy was announced at Capital Markets Day in Södertälje, Sweden on 18 May and elaborated further at the group’s Annual General Meeting on 9 June. The corporate policy is to increase profitability and efficiency by reorganising and consolidating its business operations, which cover four major subsidiaries (MAN Truck & Bus, Scania, Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus, and Navistar) active primarily across Europe, North America, and South America. Two changes are intended to improve cross-brand collaboration: the adoption of a matrix organisation,1 and the development of the ‘Traton Modular System’ or common base engine. The latter is a combustion engine platform which will be used in vehicles across all Traton’s brands, with development beginning in 2024. Traton has stated it will be the last combustion engine range the group will produce.
