Germany – As previously reported by T&BB, testing of the Iveco SpA / Plus Inc heavy-duty truck (Iveco S-Way) installed with Plus’s level 4 autonomous driving technology (‘PlusDrive’), has reached another milestone, with customer trials beginning in Q1 2024 with German drugstore retailer, dm-drogerie markt. This follows extensive closed course testing and validation as well as testing on German public roads. The customer trial will take place in Germany’s Baden-Württemberg-Hessen region and serve to demonstrate the capability of this automated driving solution to the European transportation industry. Data from real-world operations will now be gathered during this customer trial. The trials are to comply with Level 4 autonomy guidelines (i.e., the vehicle will have almost complete autonomy, however, a driver is always still present to intervene if there is a problem).

The PlusDrive-enabled Iveco S-Way truck is designed to improve efficiency, safety and eventually deal with the macro issue of driver shortages across Europe.
