Paccar, Daimler and Cummins JV select Mississippi for battery cell production

Paccar, Daimler, Cummins JV

USA / China  – Marshall County, Mississippi, has been selected as the site for battery cell production in the joint venture (JV) between Paccar Inc of Bellevue, Washington, Accelera (the zero-emissions business unit of Cummins Inc of Columbus, Indiana), Daimler Truck AG of Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Baden-Württemberg and EVE Energy Co Ltd* based in Guangdong, China. The JV was announced late last year, as part of a strategic plan to advance and localise U.S. battery cell production technology by manufacturing battery cells (lithium-iron-phosphate) for EVs at a 21-gigawatt hour (GWh) factory that is anticipated to cost between USD 2-3 billion and expected to come online in 2027.

Daimler, Cummins and Paccar will each own 30% with the remaining 10% being owned by EVE Energy, which will contribute its expertise in battery cell design and manufacturing. The finalisation of this JV remains subject to regulatory approval in the U.S.
