Truck sales up 20% in Uruguay as Chinese manufacturers make headway

Uruguay - The Uruguayan market saw a 21.9% growth in commercial vehicle sales in the first half of the year, according to data collated and released by ACAU (Uruguayan Automobile Dealers Association) of Montevideo, with registrations totalling 1,627 units (trucks, buses, and minibuses) in January to June 2025, compared with 1,335 in the same period of 2024.

Truck sales increased by 20.9% to 1,417 units sold from January to June this year, compared with 1,172 trucks in the same period last year. JAC led in truck sales for the half year with 278 units sold, down by 4.1% on the previous half year’s sales, with JMC in second, with 228 (up 42.5%), and Volkswagen in third, with 221 units (down 19%). New entrants to the market were both Chinese OEMs, Dongfeng and Forland, the CV brand of the Foton Motor Group.
