Busworld Europe 2025 Congress addresses safety in bus operations

Belgium – Safety remains a cornerstone of the bus and coach industry, and Busworld Europe 2025 is dedicating two morning sessions to the theme “Safety in Bus Operations”. Held on 6 and 7 October at the Brussels Expo, the track will be moderated by safety experts from the International Road Transport Union (IRU), bringing together regulators, operators and suppliers to explore evolving safety priorities.

Keynote contributions will come from Suzanne Hoadley of POLIS (POLIS is the European Cities and Regions Network for Innovative Transport) and Victoire Couelle of the IRU, who will examine the twin challenge of addressing ongoing driver shortages while maintaining rigorous safety standards. Discussions will also explore the role of new enforcement technologies, innovative training methods, and the importance of strengthening passenger rights and information systems.

With public confidence in buses and coaches resting firmly on operational safety, these sessions take on added importance. As the sector embraces electrification, automation and cross-border services, the need for robust frameworks and proactive measures is greater than ever. Speakers will highlight how regulation, technology and operator practices must evolve to ensure safety keeps pace with innovation.

By convening regulators, manufacturers, operators and industry associations, the Congress provides a vital forum for setting the agenda on bus safety. The outcomes will help define how Europe can deliver both growth and reliability, ensuring that the sector continues to build public trust while advancing towards a smarter and more sustainable mobility future.
