Honda is seeking new business collaborations to help it expand into the hydrogen power sector, as part of its global target of achieving “zero environmental impact” for all products and corporate activities by 2050.

Isuzu together with partner, Honda, last month began testing a prototype of the Giga Fuel Cell heavy-duty truck on roads in Japan.

Fuel Cell System Manufacturing announced that it has started series production of its hydrogen fuel cell systems at its 70,000-square-foot production facility in Brownstown, Michigan. The target is to halve the cost and double the durability compared with fuel cell systems currently on the market, bringing them in line with conventional diesel engines.

The two companies have been working together since January 2020 on verifying the compatibility of fuel-cell systems for heavy-duty trucks.

Isuzu and Honda joined forces in 2020 to develop heavy-duty trucks powered by hydrogen fuel cells and have now successfully developed a prototype based on Isuzu’s Giga truck

Honda plans selling “next-generation” hydrogen fuel cell power systems for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and other applications by 2024.
