GermanyZF Friedrichshafen AG of Friedrichshafen, Baden-Württemberg has announced a new feature of its fleet management platform which is intended to help OEMs to comply with the latest cybersecurity regulations for updating vehicle software.

As part of its ‘Scalar’ fleet orchestration system, ZF is now offering ‘Software Update Management System as a Service’. OEMs can use this service to manage software updates for their commercial vehicles, both at the vehicle level and component level, and make them available for authorisation. On the cloud, the service will store records throughout the vehicle’s entire lifecycle.

The UN Economic Commission for Europe regulation (no. 156) for vehicle cybersecurity came into effect in July for all newly-produced vehicles, including commercial vehicles. ZF says its update management service will “fix bugs, patch security vulnerabilities as well as add new features while maintaining compliance” with the regulation.
