T&BB spoke to Ian Jackson, the digital and fleet solutions manager for Conti UK. Jackson confirmed that by the end of the year, the smart sensors embedded in the new CV tyre range will have a new feature, accurate automated tread depth monitoring.

Bandvulc has unveiled the new 315/80 fitment of its popular BD5 truck tyre retread. Bandvulc claims that the BD5 returns a 40% increase in lifetime mileage compared to its predecessor, the BD08.

Currently, the multinational is retreading more than one million of its commercial vehicle tyres a year throughout its retread plants/subsidiaries worldwide. This all falls below the ContiLifeCycle* sustainable strategy, aiming to maximise tyre longevity for customers and improve environmental sustainability.

T&BB decided to have a closer look at the world’s 4th biggest tyre manufacturer as it looks to expand its global presence through fleet digitalisation, product range and aftermarket services in the context of the impending Euro VII regulation.

Bandvulc also had a wide selection of retread tyres on the stand, including the new BD5 drive tyre in the Fleetmaster range which has been engineered for mileage performance and longevity.

The Bandvulc Ivybridge plant in the UK mainly focuses on hot-retreading for the UK market with Bandvulc tyres being designed and manufactured in Ivybridge as well as producing Continental rebranded tyres in partnership with the Stöcken plant.

In order to deal with kerb scrapes, the Citymaster 5 features a reinforced sidewall which adds an extra layer of rubber compound to the outer sidewall for enhanced protection.

The design, development and installation of the robots used in the factory have been undertaken by the Bandvulc engineering team as a part of the company’s three-year operational plan to introduce advanced and innovative tyre re-treading technologies that drive quality and productivity.
