John Dunn, formerly of Proterra and now working for Phoenix, said that Proterra Transit continued to build buses during the Chapter 11 bankruptcy and a “large number” of customer contracts were carried over following the acquisition.

New York Mayor, Eric Adams, announced USD 77 million in federal funding for the New York School Bus Incentive Program (NYSBIP), which provides subsidies to help NY school districts fund the acquisition of 180 new electric school buses.

On 12 January, Phoenix Motor announced that it had completed its acquisition of the Proterra Transit, and on 2 February, Volvo announced that its acquisition of Proterra Powered had completed.

According to the terms of the asset purchase agreement between the two companies, Phoenix Motor will acquire the ‘Proterra Transit’ business assets for a sum of USD10m.

Phoenix Motor’s retrofit kit is designed for medium-duty vehicles, similar to the Class 4-5 vehicles which make up the company’s current product portfolio.

The Type A school buses will be built by Pegasus Specialty Vehicles LLC of Dunkirk, Ohio on Phoenix Motor’s battery electric cab-chassis.

Phoenix Motor says it changed the layout of the new e-chassis (based on the Ford E-450) to make more space for its newly designed battery packs towards the front and rear of the frame rails.

CATL will work together with Phoenix Motor to integrate its "E-rolling" battery technology with Phoenix Motor’s light truck and bus lines.
