Hydrogen fuel cell and commercial vehicle producer, Hyzon Motors has signed an agreement with Perth, Australia-based new materials technology company, WarpForge, for the development of a ‘SuperBus’.

The South Korean market for medium and large buses and coaches is substantial, reflecting good public transport services and the extensive use of buses and coaches by private companies.

Sales of medium and large buses and coaches fell by over 34% to 688 units in the fourth quarter of 2020 from already depressed year-earlier sales of 1,048 units, resulting in a 57% drop in full-year sales to 1,558 units.

Sales of medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicles over 6 tons gvw are estimated to have declined by over 23% to 19,589 units in 2020 from 25,575 units in the previous year, reflecting declining investment, trade and domestic consumption over the full year.

Sales of medium and large buses and coaches contracted almost 50% to 87 units in the fourth quarter of 2020 from 171 units a year earlier, resulting in a 56% drop in full-year sales to 275 units.

Japan’s market for medium and large buses and coaches continued to shrink in the fourth quarter of 2020, by almost 39% to 1,564 units after declining by 20% to 2,550 units in the same period of last year, as demand for public service buses remained depressed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta), the main public bus consortium for Indonesia’s capital city Jakarta, in December announced it wants to have 10,000 electric buses in service by 2030, according to local reports.

The Indonesian market for medium and large buses and coaches virtually collapsed in the fourth quarter of 2020; falling by over 77% to just 242 units from 1,065 units a year earlier, resulting in a decline of more than 52% in full-year sales to 1,950 units.

Fusion Capital Holdings reached an agreement in September to acquire fellow bus manufacturer, Bustech Pty Ltd with Fusion taking control of both companies.

Scottish bus and coach manufacturer, Alexander Dennis Ltd, has welcomed confirmation by the New Zealand Government of its funding of NZD50m (GBP26m) to help councils fully decarbonise their public transport bus fleet by 2035.
