Ashok Leyland is the preferred supplier to Tamil Nadu’s STU with more than 18,000 of its buses in operation, comprising over 90% of the total fleet.

This product announcement follows on from a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for long-term collaboration signed in January 2022 to develop autonomous vehicles.

OHM Global Mobility is now a part of Switch Mobility, founded in 2020. It provides an end-to-end clean mobility financing technology platform that enables EV businesses to access institutional capital efficiently.

This order is a mixture of rigid trucks and tractor units, although the order split is not stated.

Ashok Leyland says it is a new platform, but it is in fact an upgrade of the existing ‘RE-AL’ platform to allow customers to exchange used vehicles with new.

The Partner Super truck is powered by the Ashok Leyland ZD30 BS VI diesel engine offering an output power of 104 kW (140 hp) @ 2750 rev/min and maximum torque of 360 Nm @ 1350-2750 rev/min. It is matched with a manual Ashok Leyland 6-speed overdrive gearbox.

Ashok Leyland says it plans to conduct due diligence on Libertine’s intelliGEN Opposed Free Piston platform technology and explore the scope for the development and demonstration of the Linear Generator product within its commercial vehicle portfolio.

The Switch EiV 22 is powered by a liquid cooled, high density, 231 kWh NMC battery pack and uses a 650 V system - the same platform as Switch EiV 12, launched in June 2022, which is also common with Switch e1.

The order has been placed by Ashok Leyland’s UAE distribution partner, Swaidan Trading - Al Naboodah Group, with most of the buses being supplied to two operators, Emirates Transport and the STS Group.
