Hariphil Asia Resources Inc (HARI), the Manila-based distributor of Hyundai commercial vehicles, launched the light-duty public bus after it was issued with a Certificate of Compliance (COC) in July by the Department of Transportation.

The company now aims to acquire certificates from FMVSS, as well as the California Air Resources Board and the Environmental Protection Agency, before the end of the year, making its ‘P7’ vehicles roadworthy and eligible for incentives.

Every major fleet operating in California will be given one of two options: either, fleets can commit to purchasing only zero-emission vehicles from 2024 onwards; or, they can agree to comply with a series of “ZEV Milestones”, which will require their fleets to be composed of an increasing proportion of zero-emission vehicles over the next two decades.

The European Union published two amendments to its existing regulations concerning the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of heavy-duty vehicles, extending compliance to trailers, semi-trailers, medium trucks and buses and coaches. 

The proposed measures, applying to cars, vans, trucks and buses, are set to come into effect in 2025 and 2027, but they have been criticised by ACEA for being over-stringent, especially for heavier vehicles.

The aim of this network is to share data regarding EV batteries in line with new European regulation disclosing battery CO2 emissions and the resource recycling rate throughout battery lifecycles to comply with the necessary legislation, so that Japanese manufacturers can sell EVs and HEVs into European markets.

Mercedes-Benz do Brasil Ltda is to supply Volare, a Marcopolo SA mini and small bus brand, with the first 60, Proconve 8 (Euro 6) compliant chassis (LO 916 Euro 6 model) to its vehicles; Proconve 8, is scheduled for introduction in all new and existing commercial vehicles in Brazil from January 1, 2023.
